Vaonis, the telescope maker, has just unveiled its latest additions to the Vespera line of smart telescopes: the Vespera III and Vespera Pro 2. These new models promise to deliver even sharper night sky views than their predecessors, the Vespera II and Vespera Pro. With improvements to the optical design, Vaonis claims to boost color contrast, reduce chromatic aberration, and ensure edge-to-edge sharpness for astrophotography.
The Vespera III, a non-pro model, is $500 cheaper than the flagship Pro 2. It features a 50mm aperture, a Sony IMX585 sensor with 8.5MP resolution, 115GB of internal storage, and up to 11 hours of battery life. On the other hand, the Vespera Pro 2, the most premium and portable model, has the same aperture but a Sony IMX676 sensor with 12.5MP resolution and a massive 225GB of internal storage.
One of the key improvements in the new models is the shorter focal length, which should deliver a wider field of view. This is particularly important for imaging larger deep sky objects like the Andromeda Galaxy. Vaonis has also added a built-in hygrometer to measure humidity levels and an anti-fog system to prevent moisture from interrupting imaging sessions. USB-C support for faster file transfer is another notable feature.
Optional accessories, including filters for solar imaging and light pollution reduction, are available separately. The Vespera III and Vespera Pro 2 come with an aluminum tripod for additional viewing height in obstructed environments. While these telescopes are available now, Space.com has not yet tested them, but readers can refer to the reviews of the Vespera II and Vespera Pro for an idea of how Vaonis smart telescopes perform as high-end observing equipment.
In my opinion, the Vespera III and Vespera Pro 2 are significant upgrades to the Vespera line, offering improved optical performance and enhanced usability. The shorter focal length and wider field of view are particularly exciting for deep sky imaging, and the anti-fog system and hygrometer are welcome additions for those who want to capture the night sky without interruptions. The Vespera III and Pro 2 are a testament to Vaonis' commitment to innovation and their ability to deliver cutting-edge technology in a portable and user-friendly package.
